If you, or a person designated by you, will be picking up your child, it is necessary that you write a note to the teacher indicating the dismissal plan. Please be aware that it is the school's policy not to allow youngsters to leave the school with anyone other than their parent unless a note has been written by you giving permission to another person. Therefore, if your child does not have a note, s/he will not be allowed to go with any other person. Please be certain that your child knows about this procedure. Furthermore, we do not allow children who forget notes to call parents during the day in order to get permission via the telephone to go to a friend's house.
Bus Dismissal Procedure: Students who ride the bus will be dismissed directly from their classroom. Buses will be announced via the intercom. Students will then walk to the front of the building. Older students are available to help the younger children. At the front of the building the students will then be lined up according to buses and will walk to their respective buses.
Parent Pick-up Procedure: Students who do not ride the bus will be dismissed to the auditorium. Staff will be in the auditorium to monitor the children. There are two methods that you may chose for parent pick-ups.
One method is the "drive-up": Cars enter the parking lot and follow the follow of traffic. Teacher assistants are assigned outside and will ask for the child's name. They will communicate via walkie-talkie with the teacher assistant in the auditorium and the child/children will exit the auditorium.
The other method is the "walk-up". Parents will park on a side street and enter the auditorium where they will pick-up their children. Please remember that parking in the lot is not allowed. This is a major safety issue so please be cooperative with staff and work together to ensure each child's safety. As you can see, it is important to have a note written because bus students and students, who are picked up, go to two different locations in the school at dismissal.
